Meet Natasha: Customer Service Officer

The customer service team at the Adelaide Hills Council is the first point of call for any enquiries. We work across Stirling, Woodside and Gumeracha, answering questions in person, over the phone and online, and we do library work, too

Whenever we speak with someone, we try to make a good impression, be happy to help and give them a good outcome. We want people to have a positive interaction with the council whenever they reach out to us.

I started just under 2 years ago. I’d worked in admin and childcare and was looking for a change. I knew I loved customer service – I love talking to people! – but I wanted something new and closer to home.

Working locally instead of having to go into the city every day has been such a perk, and the role is flexible so I can study at the same time. It’s really nice to maintain that work–life balance.

I was given 3 to 6 months of training, so I was never put on the spot not knowing what to do. Every single day we get new enquiries from residents – the calls are never the same and we’re always learning. Living locally helps too, as I often know the places or things our residents are asking about.

If you’re thinking of applying to work in council, I say go for it! It’s been the best decision I’ve made so far. The job security and flexibility are great. If you’re looking for stability and a non-competitive, positive environment, council is for you.
