Youth services

When it comes to young people, councils offer many ways to get involved in the community, have fun, and try something new.

Every council has different events and programs for youth aged 12 to 25 years. From chess coaching to cooking classes to parkour, councils create a range of activities to suit everyone.

Some councils have spaces just for young people who live, work, study or volunteer in the council area. These spaces – sometimes called youth centres – are great places to join free activities and workshops, or just to hang out.

Councils may also offer recreation centres and sporting clubs for young people.

For the creative types, councils often coordinate youth theatre groups, art or music classes and craft workshops. Some councils even run annual competitions for things like creative writing or host a Battle of the Bands!

Programs that help youth find traineeships or jobs are also available, some councils will also offer sponsorship or youth development grants.

Councils are also there for young people who might need assistance or support or are in a crisis. If you need help, your council can help connect you with the service you need.

With a range of programs, activities and resources, councils create communities for young people to thrive and grow.
