Health and wellbeing

Councils care for the health, wellbeing and safety of their communities. They work closely with other agencies and the state government, such as SA Health and Wellbeing SA, so that everyone can get the best possible care and stay well.

Councils do many things to support the health, wellbeing, and safety of everyone. This include:

  • encouraging people to take part in wellbeing activities like walking, healthy eating and healthy living
  • offering immunisations to protect against diseases
  • making sure hygiene and sanitation standards are met in public spaces, such as swimming pools
  • inspecting and regulating food businesses, hairdressers, and tattoo studios, so they meet health and safety requirements
  • street lighting
  • taking care of playground equipment so it meets safety standards
  • controlling the spread of infectious diseases to keep communities healthy and safe.
