Yitpi Yartapuultiku – A new place for truth-telling, culture and connection on Kaurna Country
Celebrate the opening of this new cultural home with a free community event full of connection, culture and creativity on Sunday 1 June 2025.
Yitpi Yartapuultiku, meaning ‘Soul of Port Adelaide’ in Kaurna language, is a landmark cultural space in the heart of Port Adelaide. It stands on Kaurna Country as a place of truth-telling, connection and community—deeply rooted in Kaurna knowledge, stories and spirit.
Every part of Yitpi Yartapuultiku has been shaped through genuine collaboration with local Aboriginal Custodians. Guided by cultural wisdom and shaped by community voices, it reflects a shared commitment to honouring heritage and walking together.
Yitpi Yartapuultiku offers a mix of attractions and services including guided tourism experiences, art exhibitions, nature play spaces, community services, and educational programs that invite exploration in a rich natural setting.
The opening event will include cultural ceremony and performances, exhibitions and Aboriginal maker stalls, a self-guided trail, family-friendly activities and nature play and riverside grounds and art curated by Kaurna custodians.
This one-of-a-kind facility, developed by the City of Port Adelaide Enfield and the Yitpi Yartapuultiku Aboriginal Working Group, Ashley Halliday Architects and Wax Design, aims to boost tourism and strengthen the local economy.
