Nominate someone you know for 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards

11 October 2023
Do you know someone in your local community who goes above and beyond to give back to others, without asking anything in return?
2023 SA Australia Day Citizen of the Year, Stella Braund

Maybe it’s the person who runs free digital workshops for those who can’t afford it at your local library. Or the generous group at your local men’s shed who build tables and chairs and donate them to charity.

If this sounds like a person or group of people you know, nominate them for the 2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards.

The Awards, which are proudly presented by the Australia Day Council of South Australia and administered by local councils every year, acknowledge and celebrate exceptional individuals and groups across the state who enrich their local communities through significant contributions.

While categories do vary from council to council, awards usually include:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year
  • Award for Active Citizenship

Australia Day Council of South Australia, Chief Executive Officer Jan Chorley said the Citizen of the Year Awards recognised those in our communities who are committed to making a difference.

“The Awards program shines a light on those working and volunteering in communities whose efforts may go unnoticed,” Ms Chorley said.

“We get to show our appreciation and gratitude for those people and organisations that give their time and expertise to a whole range of activities, without cause or motivation for recognition.

“Nominating is very easy and is an invaluable way to show someone their efforts are valued and appreciated.”

To nominate someone in your community, all you need to do is visit the Citizen of the Year Awards website, select your local council area, enter the details of the nominee and explain in a few words why you think they would be a worthy recipient.

Self-nominations is not accepted. Nominees must be Australian Citizens (except for Award for Active Citizenship) and must be at least 16 years of age  to be eligible.
