The new Walkerville Bowling and Community Club is officially open, marking the completion of a long-awaited redevelopment that brings new life to a century-old local institution.
Mayor Jones described the redevelopment as a proud achievement for Walkerville.
“For more than a century, this site has been a place where friendships have flourished, friendly rivalries have played out on the greens, and the sense of community that defines Walkerville has continued to thrive. Today, this redevelopment ensures that legacy continues – with a modern, functional and welcoming space that meets the needs of today’s community and generations to come.” she said.
The $5.2 million project was jointly funded by the Town of Walkerville and the State Government’s Local Government Infrastructure Partnership, replacing the former 60-year-old building that had reached the end of its life.
The modern clubhouse now includes a commercial kitchen, bar and flexible function spaces designed for both the bowling club and wider community use.
The project also delivered upgrades to the Walkerville Oval precinct, including new cricket nets, multi-use courts and lighting, so that the facility is fit for purpose for the community’s needs now and into the future.
