Port Pirie set to host 2025 Country Football Championships
Port Pirie is preparing to welcome a major sporting event back to its fields, with the 2025 THINK! Road Safety Country Football Championships set to kick off in the heart of the Mid North.
In a major win for the region, Port Pirie will host the prestigious event on the 11-13 July, marking the first time the championships have returned to the town since 2019.
Backed by the Port Pirie Regional Council, the championships are expected to draw more than 450 players, coaches and officials from across South Australia to compete and celebrate the best in regional football.
Port Pirie Regional Council Mayor Leon Stephens said hosting the championships again is a proud moment for the local community.
“We are very excited to host these championships. This is a fantastic opportunity for the Port Pirie region and a perfect example of what young people can achieve within a region,” Mayor Stephens said.
“We can't wait to welcome everyone to Port Pirie for a memorable weekend of football."
The action will centre around Memorial Oval and Pirie West Oval, where eight regional zones will compete across men’s and women’s divisions.
The full fixture includes Friday night football, with Northern and Eyre Peninsula women's teams opening the championships under lights at Memorial Oval from 5:30 pm.
Adding to the excitement, the Hostplus SANFL League’s Round 13 regional clash between North Adelaide and South Adelaide will take place on Saturday afternoon, bringing elite state-league football to the Roosters' country heartland.
As the countdown begins, anticipation is building across the region and Port Pirie is ready to deliver a weekend of top-tier football, community spirit and country pride.
Every match from the carnival this year will be exclusively live streamed for FREE on SANFL Now.
