Port Pirie community invited to vote on new court design

23 June 2026
Residents have the chance to help shape one of Port Pirie's newest recreation spaces, with community voting now open to choose the final artwork design for the Solomontown Beach basketball court.

Port Pirie Regional Council is inviting residents to vote for their favourite design as part of the next stage of the Shape This Court Your Way project, a community-led initiative that has placed local young people at the centre of the creative process.

Three artwork concepts are now available for public viewing, with each design inspired by ideas and feedback shared by students, families and community members through workshops, school activities and engagement sessions.

The project aims to transform the half-court basketball space at Solomontown Beach into a vibrant destination that reflects the energy, creativity and identity of Port Pirie.

Located alongside the popular skatepark, the revitalised court will provide a welcoming space for recreation, social connection and community pride.

Port Pirie Regional Council Gallery and Cultural Arts Coordinator Ursula Halpin said community input has shaped the project from the beginning.

“Our young people have been at the heart of this project. They have shared fantastic ideas about colour, movement, local identity and the kind of space they want to spend time in. Now we're inviting everyone - students, families, clubs and the broader community -  to help choose the final design and shape a court that truly belongs to Port Pirie," she said.

Residents can view the three concepts online and vote for the design they would like to see installed. Community members are also encouraged to provide feedback about what they like most about each concept and suggest ideas that could further enhance the final artwork.

The chosen design will guide the final artwork installation and help create a unique landmark for the Solomontown Beach precinct.

Voting is open until Sunday 28 June 2026, giving residents an opportunity to have a direct say in the future of this community space, have your say at Port Pirie Regional Council.
