Panorama reserve transformed into vibrant community space

The City of Mitcham has delivered a major upgrade at CC Hood Reserve in Panorama, transforming the 1.8-hectare site into a welcoming space for the whole community.

The $1 million revitalisation introduces the city’s largest playground, a new pump track, basketball court, fitness equipment and improved open spaces for sport and recreation. A dedicated dog park for smaller pets adds to the existing off-leash area, while new picnic and barbecue facilities create more opportunities for people to gather.

The design places a strong focus on accessibility and sustainability. The project includes inclusive play equipment, a wide tree-lined path with solar lighting, and new planting to support biodiversity. Water sensitive urban design features, including stormwater harvesting and drought-tolerant species, help improve the long-term health of the reserve. A permeable footpath also allows water to soak into the ground, supporting new plantings and reducing run-off.

The space has been designed to grow with the community, using durable materials and flexible infrastructure. Power access points and adaptable areas will support small events and community activities into the future.

City of Mitcham Project Manager Simone Harvey said community input shaped the final design.

“From the master planning stage, we implemented a collaborative approach that actively sought input from local residents, schools and community groups,” she said. “We conducted targeted consultations, including workshops with students, whose ideas shaped key features such as inclusive play equipment and creative design themes.”

Simone said the project brings lasting benefits for the community.

“CC Hood is now a vibrant hub for health, wellbeing and community pride,” she said. “It sets a benchmark for future open space developments and delivers lasting benefits for generations.”

The project received funding from the Government of South Australia through the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport.
