National Volunteer Week – How Can You Make a Difference in Your Community?
Held from 19–25 May 2025, this year’s theme- Connecting Communities – focuses on how volunteering helps people feel connected and supported. Whether it's giving someone a hand, sharing your time or skills, or just showing up, it all adds up to something bigger.
Councils offer a huge selection of volunteer options – from social support and community transport to graffiti removal and visitor information, there are so many ways to get involved.
Across South Australia, more than 11,000 people volunteer with their local council.
We’ve gathered a few current opportunities below, but check with your local council to see what’s on offer. You might be surprised at what you find – and how much you enjoy it.

- Drop off flyers or letters - to keep neighbours informed about what’s happening.
- Lend a hand at local events -like helping set up or greeting visitors.
- Join an environmental initiative -such as assembling kitchen caddies or helping as a bin monitor at the Moonlight Markets.

- Companion dog walking – match with a local resident and take their dog out for regular walks.
