Horses return to Breakout Creek
Visitors to Breakout Creek / Purruna Pari will again see some familiar neigh-bours along the river, with horses returning to the area after several years away.
The Lockleys Riding Club relocated its horses in 2022 while the Breakout Creek redevelopment was underway. With Stage 3 works now complete, the horses, Jack and Cashew have settled into their new home, a purpose-built agistment on the southern side of the River Torrens, where it meets the sea. The remaining horses expected to arrive over the coming weeks.
The redevelopment has delivered an 800-metre timber-fenced agistment area, along with upgrades to the Apex Park horse arena. New holding yards and improved vehicle access will make it easier and safer to move and care for the horses.
The horses add to the unique character of Breakout Creek, offering visitors another reason to explore the popular riverside reserve while enjoying its walking trails, open spaces and restored natural environment.
As the horses return, visitors are encouraged to enjoy them safely. Please stay outside the fenced agistment area, keep dogs under control and away from the horses, and ensure children are supervised at all times.
The return of the horses marks another chapter in the transformation of Breakout Creek, bringing together recreation, nature and community in one of Adelaide's most treasured open spaces.
