Every year, South Australian councils grant thousands of dollars to community groups, individuals and organisations to develop programs that benefit people in the community.

Community Grants Programs, sometimes called Community Impact Programs, provide money to help make local communities healthy, vibrant and inclusive places to live and work.

Some councils are still seeking applicants for their 2024 Community Grant Programs with applications closing soon.

There are all kinds of activities which receive funding through community grants programs, including:

events that help people participate in their local community
training and educational activities
multi-cultural festivals
reconciliation events
sports activities and facilities
community gardens and environmental initiatives
arts events
programs that benefit vulnerable or disadvantaged people.

Each council has different criteria for awarding grants so you’ll need to visit your council website and search ‘grants’ to find out what is available, how to apply, and their closing dates.

There are hundreds of community activities and programs, large and small, that have been made possible through community grant programs.

Some grants are open all year round, until funding has run out, while others are awarded through a competitive application process with a firm cut-off date.

City of Norwood and St Peter’s

The City of Norwood and St Peter’s is seeking applications for Community Funding Program Grants with applications closing on Monday 8 April 2024.

Coorong District Council

The Coorong District Council is seeking applications for the Community Grants Program with applications closing on 8 April 2024.

Town of Gawler

The Gawler Youth Artist Sponsorship Program, the Youth Sports Person Sponsorship Program and the Youth Community Involvement Sponsorship Program all offer funding to young people at four intervals throughout the year. The next round of applications closes on April 5 2024.

City of Charles Sturt

The City of Charles Sturt is still accepting applications for Events and Festivals Sponsorship, Heritage and Conservation projects, Under 18’s Sports Programs, Change Maker Programs and funding through the Business Support Program. Applications for all of these grants close on June 30 2024

City of Prospect

The City of Prospect is seeking applications for their Ovingham Activation Grants. These grants are for community projects, activities and events that encourage community use of the newly completed Ovingham Underpass green space. Applications for these grants close on June 30 2024.

The second round of the Port Pirie Regional Council Community Assistance Fund opens on April 1 2024 and closes at the end of May.

Alexandrina Council’s Creative Communities Grant, Heritage Grant and Youth Sponsorship Grant are now open with applications closing on April 30 2024.
