Free Sports Libraries help communities get active

15 June 2026
Residents across Burnside can now borrow sports equipment for free thanks to a new Sports Library Project that makes it easier to get active, spend time outdoors and enjoy local parks.

Supported through the 10,000 Steps Community Activation Grant from Preventive Health SA, the initiative encourages people of all ages to move more, try new activities and make the most of local open spaces.

The Sports Libraries operate much like a traditional library. Instead of borrowing books, residents can borrow sports and recreation equipment, use it in the park and return it for others to enjoy.

The project aims to remove barriers to physical activity by providing free and accessible equipment for the community. Whether it is a casual game with friends, family fun in the park or a new fitness challenge, residents can access the equipment they need without the cost of purchasing it themselves.

Adding to the project's community focus, the Sports Libraries were built by volunteers from the Conyngham Street Shed. Their work has helped create welcoming and practical facilities that encourage residents to get outdoors and connect with others.

The Sports Libraries are located at Langman Reserve in Burnside, Tregenza Oval in Linden Park and Webb Street Reserve in Rose Park, making them easily accessible for residents across the council area.

By making physical activity more accessible, the Sports Library Project is helping residents stay active, build healthy habits and create stronger community connections.

With free equipment available across three locations, the Sports Library Project gives Burnside residents more opportunities to get moving and enjoy their community.
