Free native plants on offer in Murray Bridge
Now in its fifth year, the initiative has already helped put thousands of plants into local backyards, supporting greener spaces and stronger biodiversity across the region.
A wide range of native tube stock will be available, including trees, shrubs, grasses, groundcovers and bush foods. Plants are allocated based on property size, with up to 5 plants for smaller properties and up to 10 for larger blocks.
This year’s giveaway will bring the total number of plants distributed to 15,000. The milestone reflects the ongoing work of dedicated volunteers at the Community Nursery, who help grow and prepare the plants for local residents.
The Murraylands and Riverland Landscape Board will be on site to share information about local planting projects, including the Woody Meadow trial. Visitors can also pick up a free Woody Meadow plant, with one available per household while stock lasts.
The event offers more than just plants. The Brinkley ReUse Centre will also be open, with coffee available at the café and The Murray Bridge City Lions Club will host a sausage sizzle, with food and drinks available to purchase.
Residents will need to bring proof of address to collect plants. Stock is limited, so arriving early is recommended.
