Entries open for the Cuttlefest Underwater and Marine Photography Exhibition

15 May 2025
Calling all photography enthusiasts! The City of Whyalla is now accepting entries for the 2025 Cuttlefest Underwater and Marine Photography Exhibition.

Each winter, Whyalla’s coastline becomes the stage for one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles—the annual migration of the Australian giant cuttlefish.

From May through August, tens of thousands of giant cuttlefish gather in the shallow waters of the Upper Spencer Gulf to mate, turning the ocean into a living kaleidoscope of colour and movement.

It is the largest known aggregation of cuttlefish anywhere in the world, attracting marine biologists, divers, and nature enthusiasts from across the globe.

To celebrate this breathtaking natural phenomenon, the City of Whyalla invites photographers of all skill levels to participate in the 2025 Cuttlefest Underwater and Marine Photography Exhibition.

As a highlight of the annual Cuttlefest festivities, this exhibition showcases the region’s unique marine biodiversity through the lens of talented photographers.

Local and regional photographers are encouraged to submit framed, ready-to-hang images that celebrate Whyalla’s underwater wonders.

Emerging photographers and seasoned professionals alike are welcome to share their vision and help raise awareness of this globally significant ecological event.

Selected works will be exhibited throughout June and July at various venues across Whyalla, including popular cafés, restaurants, and public spaces, bringing marine magic to every corner of the city.

Submissions close Friday, May 23, 2025.

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of an inspiring celebration that connects art, science and community.
