City Library soon to re-open at new home at State Library
A new chapter is about to begin for one of Adelaide's most popular community spaces.
City Library will officially relocate from Rundle Place to the State Library of South Australia, opening its new North Terrace home at 10am on Wednesday 1 July.
The move will place City Library alongside the State Library's Research Library on the first floor of the Spence Wing, creating a central destination for reading, learning, research and community programs.
To prepare for the move, the Rundle Place location will close at 6pm on Thursday 25 June, with library staff working behind the scenes to transfer collections, resources and services to the new site.
The relocation brings together two of South Australia's most valued library services in a single, accessible location. Visitors will be able to enjoy the City Library's popular collection of books, digital resources, games, music, creative programs and exhibitions while also accessing the extensive collections and research services offered by the State Library.
The move is also supported by a $2 million State Government investment to create a dedicated children's space on the ground floor of the State Library. The new area will provide additional opportunities for families to read, learn and participate in library activities together.
City Library currently welcomes around 220,000 visitors each year, making it an important community hub for city residents, workers, students and visitors. The new North Terrace location is expected to attract even more people to both library services while creating a vibrant literary and cultural destination in the heart of Adelaide.
