Celebrate Australian film history under the stars in Quorn
The Flinders Ranges community will come together this September to mark 50 years since the iconic Australian film Sunday Too Far Away was filmed in Quorn.
The council is hosting a month-long celebration with screenings projected onto the town’s historic silos, turning the silos into a canvas for storytelling under the stars.
First released in 1975, Sunday Too Far Away is remembered as a landmark of Australian cinema.
Starring Jack Thompson in one of his breakout roles, the film tells the story of a shearer leading his fellow workers through hardship and resilience.
Its raw storytelling and striking backdrop of Quorn and the Flinders Ranges cemented its place in Australian film history.
Mayor Ken Anderson said the screenings are a fitting way to celebrate the story where it began and to showcase the vibrancy of the community today.
“The film put Quorn on the map, not just as a backdrop but as part of the story itself. These screenings are about celebrating our past while inviting people to be part of our community now,” Mayor Ken said.
Screenings will take place each Saturday night, which has now been extended from throughout September till the 4 October starting at approximately 7.10 pm, due to overwhelming demand.
Locals and visitors are encouraged to bring along chairs or picnic rugs, food and drinks, and enjoy this special free event under the stars.
