Adelaide dog walking program helping pooches and owners stay connected

18 May 2026
Need a helping hand walking your dog? The City of Adelaide’s Pooch Pals program is matching furry friends with caring volunteers for weekly walks and plenty of tail wag.

A wagging tail, fresh air and a friendly face can make all the difference and that is exactly what the City of Adelaide’s Pooch Pals program is all about.

The volunteer initiative connects dog owners who may need extra support with trained volunteers who can help take their pups for regular walks.

Whether someone is managing health challenges, physical limitations or a busy schedule, the program helps residents continue enjoying the benefits of pet ownership while keeping their dogs active and cared for.

Pooch Pals creates meaningful connections across the community.

Volunteers are carefully matched with dogs and receive training from a qualified animal behaviouralist before taking part in the program. Dogs also complete a trial walk with staff to help ensure they are the right fit.

The program offers weekly or fortnightly walks and continues to grow as part of the City of Adelaide’s broader volunteer network.

In the past year alone, volunteers contributed more than 13,000 hours across 36 programs, supporting thousands of community interactions and activities.

Residents interested in receiving support or becoming a volunteer are encouraged to join the program and help keep Adelaide’s furry companions moving, social and happy.
