Write the future in Holdfast Bay’s Young Writer’s Competition

3 September 2026
Young South Australians are invited to put their creativity on the page in the City of Holdfast Bay Libraries Young Writer’s Competition this month.

The City of Holdfast Bay Libraries is inviting young writers to imagine what life could look like in 2050 as part of its annual Young Writer’s Competition.

The competition is open until 30 September 2026 to South Australian children, with two age categories:

  • Ages 8 to 12
  • Ages 13 to 18

Young writers can submit any form of writing, including short stories, poetry or factual accounts, as long as their entry explores the theme The World in 2050.

Entries will be judged by a panel of three library staff members, with one winner selected from each age category, who will receive a prize valued at $150.

The competition is a chance for young people to let their imaginations run wild and share their ideas about the future. Entries could explore new technology, changing communities, the environment, life at home or school, or what the world might look like in 2050.

Visit City of Holdfast Bay to find out more and read previous winning entries.
