Pichi Richi Marathon 2026 registrations open for iconic Flinders Ranges event
The Flinders Ranges Council has opened registrations for the 44th Mindfull Aus Pichi Richi Marathon, with participants set to once again experience the spectacular Pichi Richi Pass.
Starting in Port Augusta and finishing in First Street, Quorn, the course winds through the Southern Flinders Ranges and attracts runners and walkers from across Australia.
Around 85 per cent of the 270 plus participants travel from outside the region, delivering an estimated $72,000 boost to the local economy through accommodation, dining and visitor spending.
The popular marathon was also recognised on a national level recently when it won the Best Small Regional Event at the 2025 Australian Event Awards
Mayor Ken Anderson said the event continues to play an important role for local businesses and the wider community.
“This strong financial injection into the local economy is a huge boost for a small town. Many of these local businesses also throw their support behind the event and it’s great to see them being rewarded...” Mayor Anderson said.
One of the event’s most unique features is the option for participants to travel 10.5 kilometres to the start line on board the historic Pichi Richi heritage steam train, offering a memorable lead in before taking on the course.
Participants can choose from a full marathon, half marathon, 10.5-kilometre, 5 kilometre or Junior Dash, with water stations every five kilometres supported by dedicated volunteers.
Whether aiming for a personal best or enjoying a scenic walk, the Pichi Richi Marathon offers a rewarding challenge in one of South Australia’s most spectacular regions.
