Skywhales to soar over Loxton on new August date
The countdown is on for one of the Riverland's most anticipated arts events, with Patricia Piccinini's iconic Skywhale and Skywhalepapa now scheduled to take to the skies over Loxton on Sunday 16 August.
The spectacular sunrise launch has been rescheduled due to forecast weather conditions, ensuring the giant hot air balloon sculptures can safely create a breathtaking experience above the Riverland.
Spectators are invited to arrive from 5:30 am at The Precinct in Loxton, where they can watch the sculptures slowly inflate before lifting into the morning sky, weather permitting.
The 90-minute experience offers a rare opportunity to see one of Australia's most celebrated contemporary artworks come to life at sunrise.
While the skywhales will now fly the following weekend, there is still plenty happening in Loxton this Sunday 9 August.
Arts on Terrace: Sky's the Limit will transform East Terrace into a colourful celebration of creativity, community and imagination from 9am to 1pm.
Visitors can enjoy live music, hands-on workshops, interactive installations and family activities inspired by Skywhales and the natural world.
The program also includes clay creations, kite decorating, painting workshops, hot air balloon craft and whimsical creature-making, alongside a progressive arts gallery showcasing local artists throughout the town centre.
With celebrations now spread across two weekends, visitors have even more opportunities to experience Loxton.
