21 May 2026
Hundreds of swimmers, families and supporters will return to the Upper North in 2028, with the SA Country LC Championships making a splash back in Port Pirie.

The 2028 SA Country LC Championships are set to return to Port Pirie from 5-8 January 2028, bringing four days of competition, community spirit and regional tourism back to the Upper North.

Hosted at the Port Pirie Aquatic & Leisure Centre, the championships will be delivered by SwimmingSA in partnership with the Port Pirie Regional Council, which has returned as destination partner following the success of the 2026 event.

The championships are expected to attract hundreds of athletes, officials, volunteers and visiting families, creating a strong boost for local accommodation providers, cafes, restaurants and businesses across the region.

Mayor Leon Stephens said the return of the championships highlighted the region’s commitment to country sport and regional events.

“We are delighted to welcome the SwimmingSA Country Championships back to Port Pirie in 2028,” Mayor Stephens said.

“Hosting this event again reflects our strong partnership with SwimmingSA and our ongoing commitment to supporting country sport, while showcasing Port Pirie as a regional destination that delivers excellent facilities, a welcoming community spirit and lasting economic benefits.”

Beyond the competition, visitors will have the chance to explore the region’s attractions, from the Port Pirie Cultural Precinct and Solomontown Beach to nearby Southern Flinders Ranges experiences, including Napperby Gorge and Bluff Lookout.

Further event details will be released closer to the championships through SwimmingSA channels.
