Immersive Songlines exhibition transforms Salisbury Community Hub

15 July 2024
Take an immersive journey through Australia’s rich cultural heritage at the ‘Walking through a Songline’ exhibition this July.

Straight from the National Museum of Australia, the innovative pop-up exhibition promises to captivate visitors with an unique look at First Nations culture.

Free for all ages, visitors are surrounded with extraordinary, vibrant projections that tell the story of a songline, a sacred tradition passed down through generations. Songlines, or ‘Dreaming tracks’, map the routes of Ancestral beings as they travelled across Australia, creating the land and its people.

The multi-sensory display follows the journey of the Seven Sisters Tjukurrpa as they are pursued across the Western and Central Deserts of Australia. See, hear and feel along the way how the sisters’ encounters marked the landscape, guiding future travellers.

City of Salisbury Mayor Gillian Aldridge OAM says the exhibition is a special opportunity not to be missed.

‘It is a powerful production and a chance to connect with First Nations culture. A chance to pause, reflect, and pay homage to the custodians who have passed this knowledge down for generations.’

From the National Museum of Australia, Adjunct Professor Margo Ngawa Neale expressed the significance of the exhibition showing in a local space, after touring internationally.

‘While this highly acclaimed and much-in-demand exhibition tours internationally we must keep an essential part of it, the beating heart, here in Australia.’
