Discover new films at the (Port) Adelaide Film Festival
The (Port) Adelaide Film Festival is back this October, bringing a diverse line-up of films to Odeon Star Cinemas in Semaphore and a special community event at Yitpi Yartapuultiku.
Film lovers can explore a range of stories on the big screen, including the world premiere of Lucrum, a folk horror film following young adoptee June as she arrives at an isolated estate. Under the care of a renowned pianist, she uncovers unsettling rituals and a dark secret hidden beneath the estate’s elegant surface.
The award-winning documentary Steal This Story, Please! follows Amy Goodman, founder of independent news program Democracy Now!, as she challenges powerful figures and reports on stories often overlooked by mainstream media. It offers a look at three decades of independent journalism and the fight for a more accountable media.
For something more experimental, Phenomena explores the hidden artistry of the natural world. Debut filmmaker Josef Gatti captures striking images of soap bubbles, crystals and ferrofluids using in-camera techniques, without digital effects, accompanied by an immersive soundtrack.
On Saturday 24 October, Bukal Bukal and campfire yarns at Yitpi Yartapuultiku will bring people together for an evening of film, conversation and storytelling around the fire.
The free, all-ages event includes the world premiere of Bukal Bukal, sharing the extraordinary story of Auntie Henrietta Fourmile Marrie AM.
Special guests from Kumarangk: Sacred Women's Business, Yumburra and Bukal Bukal will join a conversation about Aboriginal stories and histories in contemporary cinema, creating space for people to listen, learn and connect.
