Celebrate International Women's Day at your local council

4 March 2026
It’s time to celebrate and recognise women in your local council area and you’re all invited.

Many South Australian councils are hosting events, advocacy drives and fundraising activities to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March 2026.

This year’s theme is Give to Gain - a campaign which encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration.

LGA will mark the day by announcing the winner of the 2026 Joy Baluch Award which recognises the outstanding leadership of women in South Australian local government.

At the City of Holdfast Bay, the coastal council is taking an all-female, all youth approach to hosting their celebrations this year.

From the organisers to the catering team, musicians, and barista, you’re invited to attend The Rise & Lead: Youth International Women’s Day Breakfast which will be held on the back lawns of Patridge House on Thursday 5 March, from 8am to 10.30am.

Rise & Lead committee member Amrita Sandhu, a graduate of Brighton Secondary School, said being involved in the event has been really meaningful.

“It’s about creating a space where everyone feels truly seen, supported and celebrated. I hope each person who attends leaves feeling inspired to rise, confident to lead, and empowered to elevate themselves and those around them.”

The breakfast will also feature an all-female panel discussion, speed mentoring sessions with local trailblazers and of course, breakfast.

To book your ticket, head to the City of Holdfast Bay website.
