Whyalla calls for tenders as Splash and Play Plaza moves forward
The Whyalla City Council has officially opened the tender process for its much-anticipated Splash and Play Plaza, marking a key step in delivering a playful, aquatic precinct for families and visitors.
The Plaza’s framework will be ‘uniquely Whyalla’, inspired by the city’s industrial heritage and replicating structural elements of the iconic Whyalla Steelworks.
The Splash and Play Plaza will form part of a broader vision to revitalise the foreshore through a series of developments delivered in stages, involving a new Foreshore Centre Building with a café, kiosk, surf lifesaving club and other public spaces.
The Plaza will also offer a mix of water and adventure play features for all ages.
Highlights include a water curtain, a tipping bucket, play equipment, a wave lawn, scooter track and shaded seating areas, making it a space to relax, play and connect.
By opening the tender process, the council is inviting qualified contractors to bring their expertise to help deliver this key community project.
Whyalla City Council’s Mayor, Phill Stone said the project represents a significant milestone in delivering a family-friendly foreshore precinct and encourages local businesses to get involved.
“I strongly encourage local businesses to step forward, get involved, and play their part in creating something that will be enjoyed by our community and visitors,” he said.
When construction gets underway, the council anticipates strong local interest and community engagement in shaping this new hub to ensure the foreshore reflects local needs.
