Wearing Street aquatic precinct reopens with a fresh new look
The popular Wearing Street aquatic precinct in Port Noarlunga is back and better than ever, following a major upgrade that’s transformed the riverside spot into a welcoming hub for fun, relaxation and connection.
Jointly funded by the City of Onkaparinga and SA Government, the $1.65 million revamped precinct now offers improved access and facilities for locals and visitors alike.
Local residents and visitors can now enjoy an expanded aquatic launch area with two easy-access beach ramps, a new viewing shelter with seating, updated public toilet, shower facilities and a reconfigured car park to make getting in and out easier.
City of Onkaparinga Mayor Moira Were said the completion of the project was an exciting day for Port Noarlunga and the broader community.
“We know how important this river has been to the Kaurna people for thousands of years, and also that this spot has been a beloved destination for aquatic recreation since the early 1900s,” Mayor Were said.
“We wanted to not only ensure the facilities were fit-for-purpose for the user groups that call this place home, but also to create a drawcard gateway statement for those entering Port Noarlunga across the Saltfleet Street Bridge.”
More upgrades are also on the way, with plans to restore and enhance the nearby sand dunes, helping to protect the natural environment and celebrating the rich Aboriginal cultural heritage of the area.
The new-and-improved precinct marks an exciting new chapter in the Wearing Street story - one that brings people together while respecting the past and investing in the future.
