Surf culture takes centre stage at City of Onkaparinga

13 January 2026
The City of Onkaparinga has welcomed summer with the opening of the annual Surf Art exhibition at the Port Noarlunga Arts Centre, celebrating local surf culture, coastal life and creative expression.

First held in 1993, the free exhibition is a much-loved event that brings together artists from across South Australia and interstate to capture the energy, beauty and stories of the southern region’s coastline.

Visitors can explore scenes of sun, sand and surf across a wide range of art forms, including painting, photography, jewellery, mosaics, glass, textiles and sculpture. The art offers a snapshot of life along the southern beaches, from big waves to quiet coastal moments.

Arts Centre Coordinator Nerissa Galloway says the exhibition highlights both creativity and connection. “It’s a real celebration of the ocean, which is lovely, and our surf culture along the coast, which makes up much of Adelaide.”

The Surf Art exhibition runs until Monday 2 February, open from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday and 1pm to 4pm on Saturdays. Visitors can also browse the Art Shop in the Foyer Gallery, which features work from more than 60 local artists and offers unique gift ideas.

The Arts Centre will then continue the coastal conversation with a new exhibition, The Bloom, opening on Friday 6 February. This community-focused exhibition invites reflection on the health of the sea, the resilience of coastal communities and our shared responsibility to protect the environment. To find out more, visit City of Onkaparinga.
