Round House celebrates 150 years of history
One of Murray Bridge’s most treasured historic landmarks will celebrate a major milestone this October, with the community invited to mark 150 years since the Round House opened.
The Round House 150th Birthday Celebration will be held on Friday, 9 October 2026, from 10:00 am.
The morning will celebrate the people, stories and experiences connected to the Round House, while recognising the volunteers, supporters and community members who have helped care for the historic site over generations.
The Round House will be open to the public during the celebration, with heritage experiences, family-friendly activities, storytelling and refreshments available throughout the morning.
Built in 1876, the Round House has played many roles throughout its history. It has been a Bridge Engineer’s residence, school, post office, local government centre, railway residence and church.
The celebration will bring together past and present volunteers, members of the Murray Bridge and District Historical Society, families, visitors and community members who share a connection with the site.
Rural City of Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley said the anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the Round House and the people who have helped make it an important part of the community.
“The Round House is much more than a historic building. It is a place that connects us with the people, stories and experiences that have shaped Murray Bridge over generations,” Mayor Thorley said.
“Reaching 150 years is a remarkable milestone, and it is important that we recognise the volunteers, community members and supporters who have helped care for the Round House and keep its stories alive.”
The community is invited to explore the historic site, discover its stories and help celebrate 150 years of the Round House.
