Semaphore Foreshore set for exciting new chapter with major redevelopment

24 July 2026
One of South Australia's favourite seaside destinations is preparing for its next chapter, with construction on the Semaphore Foreshore redevelopment set to begin in February 2027.

A major transformation is on the horizon for Semaphore Foreshore, with the City of Port Adelaide Enfield set to begin construction on its long-awaited redevelopment in February 2027.

Designed with extensive community input, the project will create a more accessible, vibrant and family-friendly destination while preserving the character that has made Semaphore a much-loved place for generations.

The redevelopment will introduce a range of new and upgraded features. This includes an inclusive water play area, expanded activity hub with a skate plaza and basketball court, upgraded playground, improved public amenities, additional trees and more.

The iconic carousel, miniature steam train and war memorial will remain important features of the precinct.

A new kiosk building will include weather-protected outdoor seating, accessible public toilets, beach wheelchair hire facilities and an accessible changing place, helping more people enjoy a day by the beach.

Open lawns and event spaces will also support community gatherings, festivals and family outings all year round.

Construction has been scheduled to begin after the busy summer season, commencing February 2027, to reduce disruption for residents, businesses and visitors.

The timing will also support a smoother delivery of the project, with further updates to be shared as work progresses.
