Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre opens with a splash
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters officially opened the swimming centre at Felixstow on Saturday, 10 October.
The redeveloped centre features a heated 50-metre outdoor pool, a 25-metre indoor lap pool and a warm-water program pool. Families can also enjoy a children’s waterplay area and a 14-metre-high tower with two waterslides.
Accessible pool entry and changerooms, a swim school, café and meeting rooms complete the new facility.
The centre offers 1,900 square metres of swimming space, around 1.8 times more than the previous facility. Aquatic wheelchairs will also be available to help more people enjoy the pools.
The redevelopment received $5.6 million in State Government funding through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program.
The original Payneham pool opened in 1968, making its return a special milestone for long-time swimmers and families creating new memories.
The centre will be managed by aquatic and leisure operator BlueFit, which will deliver learn-to-swim and water safety programs.
With new pools, waterplay and accessible facilities, the centre gives people of all ages a welcoming place to swim, learn new skills and spend time together.
