Councils recognised on the national stage for outstanding landscape design

6 December 2025
Two South Australian councils have earned national recognition for creating public spaces that showcase innovative urban design.

The City of Charles Sturt and the City of West Torrens were among the major winners at the 2025 National Landscape Architecture Awards, receiving honours for projects that deliver long-term value for residents and set a new benchmark in council-led public space design.

The City of Charles Sturt and City of West Torrens received national acclaim for the Breakout Creek / Purruna Pari Stage 3 redevelopment, along with Green Adelaide. The project restored a key section of the River Torrens, improving water quality, strengthening biodiversity and creating new walking and cycling links for the community. Judges praised the transformation as a leading example of nature-based design that connects people with their river corridor and supports ongoing environmental health.

These awards highlight the role that South Australian councils play in shaping high-quality public spaces that will serve their communities for decades.
