Australia’s first replica speedway track set for glory

Racing enthusiasts will converge on the recently renovated Bordertown Tolmer Speedway, as the track takes part in the Sprintcar Speedweek this December.

When Bordertown's Tolmer Speedway, known locally as the “Bullring” closed in 2020 citing increased costs, the locals rallied to find a solution, determined to save an almost 50-year legacy.

Fast-forward four years, and we are now looking at the first track of its kind in Australia, modelled off Australian sprintcar racers favourite track – the US 1-55 Speedway in Missouri. Using a drone and a computer program to create a 3D image of the famous US track, drivers will put the speed to the test as Tolmer Speedway makes it mark on the racing calendar for the annual Sprintcar Speedweek extravaganza.

With help from local businesses, and $900,000 in funding from the State Government and Tatiara District Council, the Bordertown community are banking on this new clay track being a local and international drawcard for the region.

Want to check it out for yourself? Head to round 2 of the Sprintcar Speedweek as Bordertown Tolmer Speedway host round 2 of the event on 27 December 2024.

The action also happens off the track, with Bordertown Speedweek Street Party on Woolshed Street happening on Friday 27 December from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm with food and market stalls, dirt kart displays, historic vehicles and live-track broadcasts of the race.

The iconic track will also host other events throughout 2025 for locals and visitors to the region to enjoy, including:

  • Tolmer Speedway 60th Anniversary Race on 29 January 2025
  • Round 7 Super Sedan Series on 28 February 2025
