Dive into the Adelaide Aquatic Centre
Thousands of people are expected to escape the heatwave this week and try out the new facilities at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre in North Adelaide.
1500 lucky ballot winners already had an early access pass to the site over the weekend, however today marked the first day the doors opened to new members and the general public.
Demand has been strong since memberships became available in November, with more than 2,000 people enrolled in learn-to-swim and squad programs and 1,700 health and wellness memberships sold.
The centre features an indoor Olympic-sized swimming pool, a 25-metre outdoor pool, three water slides, a wellness centre, gym, kids’ Splash Zone and more.
The 13-metre-high water slides will send swimmers on a twisty ride in and out of the Centre at speeds of up to 40km/h and eventually come out at the indoor splash zone.
There are more than 40 fun features for kids (and big kids) to enjoy in the splash zone, including a rain curtain, a giant jellyfish and a set of water jets.
The City of Adelaide has played an important role in clearing the way to bring this new $135 million centre to life.
The council was responsible for demolishing the old Aquatic Centre and replacing it with a new, landscaped community oval.
