A new recycling hub has arrived at the Murray Bridge Library, offering locals an easy and convenient way to recycle items that are often tricky to throw away.

The initiative is a joint effort by the Adelaide Hills Region Waste Management Authority, the Murray Bridge Rotary Club, and the Rural City of Murray Bridge, all working together to promote environmental sustainability and reduce rubbish that goes to landfill.

The hub is designed to accept a range of everyday items that can be harmful to the environment when not properly thrown away. When making a trip to the library, visitors can now drop off small electronics, power cords, mobile phones, batteries, and even old X-rays at designated collection boxes during library hours. In partnership with the Rotary Club, the hub also collects spectacles, can ring pulls, plastic bottle caps, and medicine blister packs.

General Manager Infrastructure and Environment, Thuyen Vi-Alternetti, emphasised the positive impact the recycling hub can have.

“We strongly encourage the community to use the Recycling Hub for these specific items, rather than throwing them into general rubbish," he said.

"By doing so, the community can significantly contribute to reducing landfill waste and promoting recycling efforts. Most things can be recycled when managed properly!”

Mayor Wayne Thorley commended the collaboration that brought this project to life.

“When it comes to the environment, we all have to do our part. Having our own recycling hub at the Murray Bridge Library gives the community yet another resource to utilise towards sustainability."
