About

The Mount Barker District Council is a local government area, centred on the Adelaide Hills town of Mount Barker, just outside the Adelaide metropolitan area in South Australia.

Located on the lands of the Peramangk people, the Mount Barker District Council covers an area of 595 km2 and serves a population of 39,200 people.

The district of Mount Barker is well worth a look, with its sweeping countryside, wide range of accommodation, abundance of fresh local produce and host of beautiful wineries. The area is known and admired for its vibrancy, creativity and welcoming nature, offering approximately 60 events each year – there’s something for everyone and enough to keep you going all year round.

Inspired by the legacy of Sir Hans Heysen, the district is a mecca for artists, galleries, and artistic events such as the Cedars, Hahndorf Academy, Heysen Prize and the Gawler Street Art trail.
