About

The Berri Barmera Council is a local government area in the Riverland region of South Australia, approximately 220 km northeast of Adelaide.

Located on the land of the Ngaiawang, Ngawait, Nganguruku, Erawirung, Ngintait, Ngaralte and Ngarkat people, it occupies a total area of 508 km2 and has a population of 10,484.

The Berri Barmera economy is sustained by irrigated horticulture, wine manufacturing, tourism and government services. The growth of the economy is directed by investment in tourism and hospitality services and a growing demand for housing related infrastructure.

The council is responsible for providing a range of services including the maintenance and upkeep of 485km of roads, two libraries, cemeteries, the state heritage listed Bonney Theatre and a Visitor Information Centre.
